Originally delivered at a 1965 symposium in Maribor, Slovenia, this reprint is deemed a courageous example of Slovene sociology in communist Yugoslavia. The issue of social stratification is addressed from a perspective departing from the traditional Marxist interpretation, & a notational apparatus consisting of "+" & "-" symbols is utilized to represent the variables of affluence/income, education, & power in the form of triadic graphs. The affiliation to social class & stratum is codified in the form of such graphs, & social mobility is schematically represented in the changes of the composition of individual graphs & their hierarchical & vectorial dynamics.
