The book under review contains a bibliography of writings by Czech and Slovak Slavisists. These writings have appeared in bookform or as articles in magazines in the period 1760 through 1966. The review does not examine the entire book, but deals only with Slovenistics which figures as part of the Czech and Slovak Slavonic studies. The proportion of Czech and Slovak Slovenistics in the book could be much better, both with regard to the personalities included and the research work that has been carried out. Another objection concerns the proportion of Slovak scholars in the field of general Slavonic studies as well as in the field of Slovenistics. Taking into account the principle of dialectics, it would perhaps be justifiable to expect that the book should also present the work of essayists, publicists, and translators--at least in the period when Slavonic studies started to acquire their scientific character.
