Obljetnice smrti dviju osoba časnoga spomena, sv. Terezije iz Kolkate i sluge Božjega Franje Kuharića, bili su poticaj da se istraže međusobne poveznice u životima tih dviju osoba. Arhivsko gradivo dokazuje da je nadbiskup Kuharić imao ključnu ulogu pri dolasku zajednice Misionarke ljubavi u Zagreb, da je Zagrebačka nadbiskupija u njegovo doba svesrdno pomagala djelovanje sestara te da je nadbiskup u propovijedima često spominjao Majku Tereziju i Misionarke ljubavi. The anniversaries of the deaths of two persons whom we hold in honourable memory — 25 years since the death of St. Teresa of Calcutta and 20 years since the death of the Servant of God Franjo Kuharić — prompted the author to look into the manifold interconnections between these two persons in terms of their lives and their works. The archival material analysed proves that Archbishop Kuharić played a key role in the coming to Zagreb of the community of the Missionaries of Charity, and that the Zagreb Archdiocese assisted the Sisters wholeheartedly in their activities. Also, Kuharić often mentioned in his homilies the life and activites of Mother Teresa and her spiritual daughters, the Sisters of the Missionaries of Charity. During Kuharić’s ministry as bishop, from 1964 to 1994, twenty–one religious communities came to Zagreb and its environs. Among them the community of the Missionaries of Charity occupy a special place, as they came to Zagreb at the initiative of Archbishop Kuharić. Kuharić provided housing for the Sisters in facilities owned by the Zagreb Archdiocese, and he supported their activities through the Archdiocese in terms of their material, spiritual and personal needs. Kuharić’s homilies abound in references to Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity in which he would place a special emphasis on their selflessness, poverty and committment to serving the needy, thus prompting others to follow their example.
