At the end of 2022, Comenius University in Bratislava, together with Pavel Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and Masaryk University in Brno, successfully commercialized a joint invention through the transfer of intellectual property rights. This marked the first official transfer of intellectual property rights among Slovak universities. Given the intricacies of the entire process, the cooperation of all involved parties played an essential role. The presented article focuses on specific issues related to the transfer process: the transition of intellectual property from a public higher education institution to a foreign private company, with a particular emphasis on legal and economic aspects. The assessment mainly pertains to possibilities for managing the university's intellectual property and the incorporation of the transferred intellectual property into the university's assets. In addition to the aforementioned points, the article also delves into other matters. Notably, it discusses the subsequent steps taken after the intellectual property transfer contract was concluded. This includes the distribution of received sum based on legal and pre-existing contractual obligations that Comenius University in Bratislava was bound by.
