The Fletcher's building was formerly the Cape Codder, John D's West End Grill, Zapata's Mexican restaurant and until this fall was Spongy's. Co-owner Derek Betz said the American grill-style restaurant, featuring up to eight beers on tap, burgers, steaks, chops and seafood would open in early March. When the new sports bar opens, Ryan O'Donnell said it will offer cheap food and drinks, live entertainment, a banquet and private party area, a game room and more and bigger restrooms than Garfield's West had. O'Donnell said he had served as a manager at the Garfield Street Bar and Grill on Mascoutah Avenue in Belleville before opening Garfield's West. Now other investors have been brought in for the sports bar project, and O'Donnell said the two businesses are no longer connected.
