The developed computational model for determining the service life of contacting machine elements (gears, wheels, etc.) is based on the fundamental laws of material fatigue. It can be split into two ...characteristic phases, i.e. the initiation and the growth of fatigue cracks. Although the developed model is based on experimental tests and numerical simulations, the prime aim of this research project is to formulate a valid procedure that will be able to provide the designer with a useful tool for designing various mechanical elements with respect to their expected service life.
