  • Multifunctional aluminium-magnesium-titanium based intermetallic compounds reinforced with ceramic particles
    Kevorkijan, Varužan
The paper presents the development of multifunctional composites based on aluminium and titanium intermetallic compounds reinforced with ceramic particles. There is a common denominator of all modern ... composite materials which include monolithic composites with a matrix based on intermetallic compounds reinforced with ceramic perticles and multilayer bimetallic composites composed of layers based on two different alloys bonded with an intermediate layer from monolithic composites. That common denominator is reactive synthesis (reactive sintering or infiltration), which ensures the fabrication of the material and the final product in a single production operation. The latter is an essential factor for the manufacture of materials and components. The basic advantage of multilayer composites is the guarantee of the rquired combination of properties at loval level. These properties must be in the part of the component where the properties are needed. This includes optimization of the component mass and creation of value added performance.
