Začetki otorinolaringologije na Kranjskem = The beginnings of the otorhinolaryngology in Carniola

The paper briefly describes the beginnings and development of otorhinolaryngology in the second half of the 19th century under the Austro-Hungarian empire. At that time, Vienna was among the most ...famous and important centres for otorhinolaryngology. The Duchy of Carniola, with Ljubljana as its capital, was a part of the empire. Carniola, which occupied the central area of present-day Slovenia, was the home of three distinguished otorhinolaryngologists who played an important part in the development of thisfield in Slovenia. By drawing a comparison between the beginnings of otorhinolaryngology in Vienna and in Ljubljana, the author shows that the level of development of otorhinolaryngological activities in Ljubljana was only slightly behind that in Vienna.
