  • Določanje retikulocitnih parametrov na hematološkem analizatorju Coulter GEN S = Evaluation of reticulocyte parameters on the Coulter GEN S hematology analyzer
    Piskar, Majda
For a long time the reticulocyte count has been used to estimate the erythropoetic activity of the bone marrow. An elevated reticulocyte number indicates increased erythropoiesis, which is normal ... response to various pathological conditions. After bone marrow damage or untreated anemias, decreased reticulocyte number indicated decreased erythropoiesis. The Hematology Laboratory at the Clinical Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Biochemistry, University Medical Centre, Ljubljana, introduced the flow cytometric method on the Coulter GEN S hematology analyzer, which greatly improved the precision and accuracy of reticulocyte counting. Reticulocytes have different amounts of RNA and they can be separated by their immaturity after staining and flow cytometric analysis. The immaturity level of a reticulocyte population can be determinated by a new additional reticulocyte parameters, such as the Immature Reticulocyte Fraction, which have already been proved as clinically and diagnostically useful.
