  • Analysis of electrochemical noise during the stress-corrosion cracking of cold drawn wire
    Bajt Leban, Mirjam ...
The measurements of electrochemical noise generated by stress-corrosion cracking have been performed on heat treated cold drawn wire in NaCl aqueous solutions with different pH values. The potential ... and current noise were measured between three identical wires, the common was tensile stressed. The optical microscope combined by a computer visualization technique was used simultaneously in order to inspect surfaces of wires during the tests. In order to characterize the measured signals, and especially to distinguish between the signals of electrochemical noise generated by pitting corrosion, uniform corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, various types of signal analysis were used (spectral analysis, determination of fractal dimensions and estimating of maximum Lyapunov exponents). It has been established that electrochemical noise measurements and analysis can distinguish between pitting and uniform corrosion and some results were also achieved in recognizing stress-corrosion cracking
