  • Use of automated identification of prefabricated steel elements on construction site [Elektronski vir]
Čuš Babič, Nenad ; Rebolj, Danijel
Current state of the practice shows that construction supply chains and activities on construction sites are stepping behind well recognized and automated approaches in material management and ... control that are common in other industries. Poor transparency of available material resources results in project delays, reduced productivity and increased waste. Well accepted RFID technology used for material tracking automation in other industries is not well accepted in construction projects yet. The paper describes an approach and pilot implementation of the use of RFID technology for tracking of material flows in context of construction project. The implementation is focused on industrialized construction process. On construction site, building is erected from prefabricated steel construction elements and metal façade panels. Automated data collection regarding building elements delivered on construction site and regarding building elements consumed in construction process was implemented. From technology point of view we performed experiments in the field of automatic identification with the use of new generation RF RuBee tags. The aim of this work is tackling problems experienced with usual RFID technology when used with metal objects. The paper also discusses supply chain management aspects explored in pilot implementation, such as (i) integration with other systems (ii) level of detail of material tracking, (iii) organization of construction site repository and positioning of material identification points.
