Protection properties of textiles treated with UV absorber extracted from pine wood [Elektronski vir]

There is increasing awareness of the dangers posed to human health by over exposure to solar radiation, especially UV-B regions of the spectrum that destroy the DNA of human cells. The aim of this ...research was, therefore, to investigate the relationship between the absorption of electro magnetic waves from a region of 290 to 400 nm of wavelength using five fabrics different in composition, density, mass and wave treated with several concentrations of UV absorbers extracted from pine wood (Pinus sylvestris), and their blocking properties against UV-rays. The air permeability of treated samples was determined using a Karl Schröder apparatus, and UPF, UVA, UVB values were measured by a Cary solarscreen 50 spectrophotometer (Varian). The obtained results indicate that the fabricsć structural parameters and composition, and concentrations of the absorbers are in correlation with the UV absorbing capacity.
