Numerical analysis of punching tools for aluminium slugs [Elektronski vir]

The paper is concerned with computational finite element analysis of punching tools behaviour during the production process of aluminium slugs. Dynamics of the process was analysed first to determine ...the cutting knife speed, which was required to calculate the tool pressure. Determined loading conditions were then applied to original tool design, which was computationally analysed. The computational results proved to be in good agreement with measurements on real tools. The same loading conditions were then used to analyse the alternative tool designs to determine the best design. It is concluded that computational analyses of punching tools can be reliably used to evaluate various tool designs and to determine the best design for specific requirements.
