Poklicne bolezni zaradi izpostavljenosti azbestu v Sloveniji = Occupational diseases due to asbestos exposure in Slovenia

Asbestos has been in widespread use for the production of numerous products for more than a century. The majority of asbestos in Slovenia was used in the production of asbestos-cement products by ...Salonit Anhovo factory. Asbestos fibres, after they have been inhaled, cause fibrotic and malignant health effects. Occupational diseases that can result from occupational asbestos exposure are asbestosis, pleural changes, cancer of the respiratory tract and malignant mesothelioma of the pleura and peritoneum. The biological effects ofasbestos, the characteristics of occupational diseases and the legislation on recognizing occupational diseases are presented. Available data about occupational diseases in Slovenia in the past and data on recognized occupational diseases after' a new legislation has come to power in 1998, are presented as well.
