    Kondrič, Miran, 1960- ; Mišigoj-Duraković, Marjeta
This study presents somatic growth of primary and secondary school children and youth in the Republic of Slovenia. The cross-sectional sample of participants was comprised of 2372 male pupils from ... different Slovenian primary and secondary schools. Each age category consisted of 200 participants, except for 172 participants in the 18-year age category. Pupils were measured by 15 anthropometric measures. The morphological indicators obtained in this study suggest that the growth spurt takes place between 13 and 14 years. The tranversal measures reach their peak betweeen 14 and 15 years. The greatest augmentation of values of the body mass and voluminosity measures is observed at 14 years of age. The measures of limb skinfolds start to decrease gradually from 12 years, but, after a deceleration of growth in height at 17 years, they resume enhancing. The greatest variability of the most of measures is registered in the period of the most intensive growth, whereas it is being reduced towards the end of the period of adolescence. The research results confirm the necessity of understanding and taking into account the characteristics of growth and development, the changes of body dimensions and proportions, as well as their relations to and influence on motor performance when planning motor activites, especially if the individual approach to physical and sport education is advocated for.
