Objective: To determine compliance with the protocol for cervical ripening. Materials and methods: A total of 113 women, between November 5, 2001, and April 10, 2002, were scheduled for preinduction ... cervical ripening in this observational study on 2336 who delivered in this period. Women with contraindications to vaginal delivery and to the use of prostaglandins, were excluded. The maximum daily dose was 6mg and the treatment could be repeated the day after until a maximun number of four doses. Labor management was standardized, fetal heart rate (FHR) monitored with CTG and oxytocin was used for augmentation of labour if necessary. Results: Indications for preinductionwere pregnancy prolongation (36%), oligohydramnios (23%), hypertension (11%), preeclampsia (8%), IUGR (3%), diabetes (3%), pathologic CTG (4%), fetal malformations (4%). Among the 113 studied patients, 82(72.6%) delivered vaginally, 30 (26.5%) underwent cesarean section, 1(0.9%) delivered with V.E. Cesarean section was performed in 13 cases(43.3%) for kephalo-pelvicdisproportion, in 6(30%) for acute fetal distress, in 6(20%) forarrest of dilatation and in 5 cases(16.7%) for failure of preinduction. Conclusions: Regarding our analysis and data from literature suggestions for changed protocol could be made.
