Nitrate and atrazine transfer from rural catchment to water - a case study in the Apače valley, Slovenia

To observe the leaching of atrazine in natural conditions, the monitoring of atrazine and nitrate pollution of waters was conducted on a monthly basis between Mar. 1993 and Dec. 1994 in the Apače ...Valley. In column experiments the degradation, mobility and leaching of atrazine were studied. Ground water in the Apače Valley is more polluted with nitrates and pesticides than surface waters and during wetter year pollution was higher than during the drier year. After three months of the laboratory leaching experiment most of the recovered atrazine and metabolites remained in the upper layer of soils.
