  • Deformation behavior modeling in case of cyclic mobility
    Lenart, Stanislav
During cyclic loading of saturated soil the effective stress path approaches the so-called phase transformation surface (PTS). A significant shear strain may be developed without appreciable shear ... stress, at the moment when stress path meets the PTS. A phase of sudden soil softening is followed by a significant regain in soil stiffness at large deformations. The strain developed during this softening phase presents the main share of a total strain. Therefore, softening phase leads the performance behavior of cyclic loaded geotechnical structure. It has been found out that the energy dissipated during softening phase is related to the amount of strain developedduring softening phase. This finding might be a proper solution for numerical versatility appearing at modeling of cyclic mobility phenomena. It was used in numerical analysis of some experimental cases. Good agreement between the results of analysis and the laboratory test measurements were obtained.
