  • Diversity and some ecological aspects of armored dinoflagellates in the Gulf of Trieste, the Adriatic Sea

    Conclusions: The results showed the species richness of armored dinoflagellates to be more seasonally-dependent while abundance peaks of selected species occured more irregularly and were hence less ... predicable. This was mainly due to rapidly changing environmental parameters in a shalow coastal area, although highly developed stratification in the May-July period, due either to intensive warming-up of the surface layer or freshwater inputs, seemed to be the forcing element for the abundance maxima.
