  • Metallography of hard ceramic coatings [Elektronski vir]
    Bončina, Tonica ...
Die-casting tools can be deteriorated by the adhesion of the melt during casting, as well as by corrosion, erosion and thermal fatigue. In order to eliminate that undesired effects, different release ... agents, as well as layers of hard ceramic coatings, can be used. Hard coatings based on nitrides and carbides of transition metals (e.g. CrN, CrC, TiAlN, TiB2) have a high hardness, good wear and corrosion resistance. Coatings should adhere well to the die surfaces. In addition, they should have as small number of defects as possible to avoid their negative effect on the quality of the castings. The thicknesses of the coatings range from 0.5 6m to 4 6m and do not significantly affect the dimensions of the mould cavity.
