  • Strategy of Group M

    Group M as it is referred to is a group of two small family-owned companies that are approaching the end of the first generational transfer. The main objective of the project was to develop a mid to ... long-term future strategy that will ensure sustainability. The management, which consist mainly of family members has encountered a unique opportunity to divest a portion of the bussiness. In light of this opportunity, we conducted a comprehensive industry and company analysis. We then combined the key findings with a comparative evaluation of financial projections of the two different scenarios. Scenario one involved retaining part of the business in question, while scenario two entailed selling it. In the end we submitted a proposal and presented a preliminary strategy to implement the chosen course of action for Group M. The analysis and its ensuing conclusions did not distinctly favor either of the two possible scenarios therefor the main decision factor for the proposal were the financial terms of the sale. In scenario two, these terms indicated a more promising prospect for ensuring sustainability within Group M, aligning with the family´s hence the management´s primary objectives: sustaining the group´s longevity and creating value for the family. Consequently, the outcome of this project is a proposal for Group M to divest a portion of its business and execute a new strategy over the next mid to long-term period.
