Vatovec, Jagoda ; Geczy Buljovčić, Branka ; Gros, Anton, 1945-
Early identification of hearing impairment results in an earlier initiation ofthe necessary interventions and better developmental outcomes. Introduction of universal neonatal hearing screening is ... necessary in order to achieve this goal. In Slovenia, TOAE recording has been used in hospital based maternity unit screens since 1999. A total of 124 infants have been referred to the audiology unit of the University Department of Otorhinolaryngology of Ljubljana because TOAE were absent in their screening tests. With other hearing tests, hearing impairment was confirmed in 45 (36.29%) infants, among whom 17 were deaf. Neonatal hearing screening thus led to the identification of hearing impairment within the first few months of life.
