    The article derives from a presumption that debates on biological determination of gender identity are not convincing and that society is the main factor in the process of constructing gender ... identity. The authoress thus focuses on psychological construction of personality as a primary factor in gender identity formation. Models based on the critical approach to classical psychoanalytical models emphasize the importance of female dominance(or the lack of men) during the first years of child's life for gender identity formation. Strict and rigid division into female and male gender identity, which is reproduced in this way, obstructs the complete perception of the world and functioning within it. Through the process of forming gender identity, the authoress shows that the current changes in the field of gender roles do not necessary apply to changes in the field of gender identity as well. The authoress sees the latter as an origin of gender asymmetry and a place of repoduction of the existing patriarchal society.
