  • Enhanced UV-B radiation affects the synthesis of protective compounds in common and bitter (tartary) buckwheat
    Germ, Mateja
Common and tartary (bitter) buckwheat were exposed to two levels of UV-B radiation: ambient and enhanced UV-B radiation, corresponding to 17% reductionof ozone layer. The total amounts of ... UV-absorbing compounds were lower in buckwheat cultivated under ambient UV-B compared to those grown underenhanced UV-B levels. UV-B absorbing compounds also accumulated through the growing season. UV-B radiation caused a reduction in amounts of chlorophyll a during the time of intensive growth. Potential photochemical efficiency was unaffected due to enhanced UV-B radiation.
