  • Molecular diagnostics of medical important yeasts and moulds = Molekularna diagnostika medicinsko pomembnih gliv in plesni
    Matos, Tadeja
Invasive fungal infection, especially in immunocompromised patients, can result in life-threatening infection. The most common fungal pathogens that cause invasive diseases are Aspergillus spp. and ... Candida spp. The early diagnosis of invasive fungal infection has been extremely difficult because the clinical signs and symptoms are nonspecific, which leads to a delay in thediagnosis andč consequently, a delay in the institution of appropriate antitungal therapy. Current laboratory methods for fungal detection and identification are still time-consuming and lack sensitivity and specificity. The alternative to standard laboratory diagnostic methods includes amplification and detection of specific fungal DNA sequences. Molecular methods are promising because of higher sensitivity and specificity than standard laboratory methods. Many unsolved questions will remain, before thesemethods are introduced in routine clinical mycology practice. One of the most important is the standardization of the methods for DNA extraction and DNA detection.
