  • Ultrazvok v diagnostiki bolečine v trebuhu = Ultrasonography in diagnostics of the abdominal pain
    Vidmar, Dubravka
In this paper we describe the most frequent causes of acute abdominal pain which in most cases can be diagnosed by ultrasound, and sometimes additionallyrequire a classic radiograph, computer ... tomography (CT) or in recent years CT angiography. Because of the nature of this clinical entity a fast and efficient diagnosis must be performed, usually as part of patient management at the emergency department and without forehand preparation. Ultrasound is an excellent diagnostic method; the portable machine can be brought to the patient in the emergency room or operating theater. Other medical procedures can be simultaneously performed on the patient. It is proved to not cause harm, and may be unlimitedly used in pregnant women, children and young patients. An experienced examiner is capable of arriving toa dlagnostic conclusion, which can sufficiently help the referring physicianto correctly decide for further steps in disease assessment and therapy. Due to its physical properties it is not useful in cases of subcutaneous emphysema, which is only rarely seen in thorax trauma patients. An ultrasound examination does not explain the cause of intestinal bleeding, and has limited usefulness in intestinal ischemia.
