  • Progress of record PV solar cells in light of SQ limit [Elektronski vir]
    Topič, Marko ...
In light of Schockley-Queisser efficiency limit the state-of the art solar cells using different technologies are reviewed and their ten-year scientific and technological progress evaluated. Cells ... made of either lower and higher bandgap absorber are put under the same nominator, i.e. SQ limit through normalized current density - voltage (J-V) curves under standard test conditions. Conversion efficiency in single-junction solar cells is systematically analyzed in terms of energy conversion efficiency, the Shockley-Queisser (SQ) efficiency limit, and two remaining efficiencies, i.e., optical efficiency and electrical efficiency normalized to the SQ limit of performance parameters. There is a weak dependence of the SQ efficiency limit in single-junction solar cells on the bandgap of the absorber and much stronger dependence of the electrical efficiency. Record cells of conventional (Si, GaAs, CIGS, CdTe) and emerging (perovskite, organic) solar cell technologies is the primary focus, but also tandem solar cells will be addressed and assessed.
