  • Klinične in elektrofiziološke spremembe pri diagnostiki optičnega nevritisa otrok : magistrsko delo
    Tekavčič Pompe, Manca
Background: Clinical picture of optic neuritis (ON) in children is different than in adultsČ in children it is more often bilateral and associated with a febrile illness, visual acuity usually ... improves faster, and the results of some clinical investigations (visual acuity test, Haitz test, contrast sensitivity test, colour vision test, visual field test) are also less objective. Visual evoked potentials (VEP) recording is a more objective methodand can therefore have an important role in the diagnostics of ON in children. Aim of the study: The aim of our five-year prospective study was to evaluate ophthalmologic and electrophysiologic findings in children with suspected ON and to follow them up clinically and electrophysiologically. The diagnostic role of electrophysiologic tests in children with ON could thus be assessed. Subjects and methods: From children referred to the University Eye Clinic in Ljubljana for further assessment of eventual ON, 30 were enrolled inour study after being carefully examined ophthalmologically (visual acuity, colour vision, contrast sensitivity and visual field tests) and electrophysiologically (flash and pattern ERG and VEP). Their results were compared with those of a control group of 30 children. Children with abnormal VEP responses were followed-up clinically and electrophysologically, while those with normal VEP were followed-up only clinically. (Abstract truncated at2000 characters)
