Watershed modelling and surface runoff simulation

The timely, accurate and reliable flood forecasting is essential for the effective flood warning. To assure the efficient real-time flood forecasting and accurate hydrological forecasts we have ...started to introduce the complex rainfall-funoff models in hydrological forecasting service of Hydrometeorological Institute of Slovenia. Some of the Slovenian watersheds are in the phase of setting up of hydrological models with WMS (Water Modelling System) software, which integrates digital terrain analysis and hydrological modelling. It utilises digital terrain data to delineate watershed and sub-basin boundaries and computes geometrical parameters used in hydrological modelling. Model HEC-1 was use for surface runoff simulation. So far WMS has been implemented on the Savinja river basin. In operational use oh HEC-1 models the real time or forecasted precipitation data and parameters of bse flow are required. The input for the rainfall data can be rain-gauge data, or meteorological forecasted precipitation.
