    One of the mayor problems in a permanent magnet synchronous motor design is how to chose the most appropriate rotor construction for exactly defined application. Highly nonlinear nature and often ... complicated design of permanent magnet synchronous motor make impossible the use of the most analytical methods for solving electromagnetic field of the motor. The only possible way to overcome this problem is the use of more accurate numerical methods, such as the finite element method, which is almost independent on the geometry of the motor and used magnetic material. The thesis describes the calculations of a steady state permanent magnet synchronous motor characteristics by postprocessing the static magnetic field calculation results by 2D Finite element method. With intention to verify the proposed calculation approach the measurement of load conditions at different supply frequences were carried out on the synchronous motor with imbedded permanent magnets. The necessary input data for the numerical calculation of electromagnetic field of the motor were obtained from the measurement results. Calculation results of a steady state characteristics of permanent magnet synchronous motor compared with measured results of the tested motor confirm the validity of the proposed calculation approach.
