Wide area monitoring system in practice

This paper presents functionality of developed wide area monitoring system (WAMS) and its implementation in Slovenian transmission system. The motivationfor WAMS application was the increased need ...for observability under normal and stressed power system operation. A real-time exchange of phasor measurements between TSOs can be vital for operators to better understand the system behaviour induced by remote events. Such an event was recorded on November 4th 2006, when the UCTE separated into three areas. The captured measurements are presented and discussed. Some possible further developments on the field of WAMS are also given.
