  • Spolne razlike v delovnih in kariernih pogojih znanstvenega dela v Sloveniji
    Ule, Mirjana
In the article we attempt to answer questions concerning the location of the fundamental barriers to the assertion of women in science in Slovenia and what are the reasons for the vertical gender ... segregation that is revealed by statistical data and opinion studies. These questions will be answered through theoretical reflections and research data on differences in the working conditions and career paths in science between genders in Slovenia, with the research having been carried out on a sample of 1,100 doctors of science. The research results clearly support the hypothesis that gender remains a central element of institutional life in science in Slovenia, not in the classrooms but where the power, influence, prestige, reputation and money are concentrated and where decisions are being made. Most functions in the academic sphere occupied by female scientists chiefly relate to pedagogical work, which is less relevant in terms of career advancement and reputation. Due to the fresh attention being paid to the position of women in science over the past decade, we more rarely encounter overt behaviourally displayed dominance. Institutional dominance has been transferred to the hidden aspects of power. In fact, the position of women in science corresponds fully to todayʼs management of science in the context of the prevailing neoliberal social paradigm.
