  • A comparison of the performance of on-line transformer monitoring indicators with conventional transformer oil tests
    Gradnik, Timotej ...
The paper presents findings in the case of monitoring a new 300 MVA transformer during its first 2 years of operation. Oil samples were taken at predetermined intervals during normal transformer ... operation. The chem-oil tests, dissolved gas in oil analysis, and HPLC furanics in oil analysis were performed according to IEC standard test methods at a test laboratory, accredited according to the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard. Comparable data from the on-line monitoring system, equipped with electronic sensors for dissolved gas in oil as well as moisture in oil and paper, were collected and compared with results of oil analyses. The results indicate inaccurate performance of both integrated electronic sensors. Causes for inaccurate operation of the sensors along with proposals for improvements are discussed as well as performance evaluation of transformer on-line monitoring systems in view of asset management needs.
