  • Young researchers in Slovenia [Elektronski vir] : human resource development and social aspects
Košmrlj Muha, Katarina ; Arzenšek, Ana
Research and development are two important disciplines in each society and nation. It is important to educate especially young gifted people to practice science, and different countries developed ... different mechanisms to attract young people to postgraduate study and into research work. The mechanism Slovenia developed for this purpose is the institute of young researchers - a publicly funded programme for education of young intellectual potential aiming at nurturing new academic staff or research and development oriented employees in economy. Since its beginning in 1985, a substantial part of research budget has been invested in the programme and a substantial number of young researchers have participated. However, no extensive research on the programme has been done, so far. This paper presents some aspects of the importance of the institute of young researchers from the point of view of human resource development and potential influence of the programme for society, raising questions that may serve as a basis for researching and evaluating the programme in order to assess its effectiveness and impact and possibly modify it for improvement.
