Evolution of the NPP Krško safety assessment due to seismic hazard

The hazard of seismic event was recognised during the design and construction phase of the NPP Krško. Due to this the NPP Krško was designed and constructed as a robust, seismically resistant plant. ...In the recent years extensive studies of the plant region have been performed. Studies resulted in the new probabilistic seismic hazard assessment (PSHA). Due to findings in the new PSHA study a complete update of the seismic probabilistic safety assessment (SPSA) of NPP Krško was conducted. Results of SPSA show significant decrease of the core damage frequency in the NPP Krško SPSA model. The changes and refinements in the SPSA model have more than compensated the effects of increased seismic risk.
