  • A psychological model of revolt in totalitarian countries
    Pečjak, Vid
The model contains teh minimal number of factors which are necessary for a sufficient description and to some extent also prediction of people's revolt in totalitarian countries. The model consist of ... the source of pressure (the ruling oligarchy) and of the destination (people). Two kinds of factors are proposed: amplifiers and reducers. The former increase revolt, the latter prevent or diminish it. The main amplifiers are fear, identification with the people and transfer of revolt from another source. The main reducers are fear, identification with the aggressor and displacement. Besides these poximate factors there are numerous distant factors influencing the proximate ones and hence the revolt. One influential factor, social induction, could be either an amplifier or a reducer, depending of the circumstances. The revolt is equal to the difference between amplifiers and reducers' times pressure. The treshold of revolt is the point when imlicit revolt becomes explicit. Threee possible outcomes are: increase of pressure on people, gradual change (evolution) and abrupt eleimination (revolution) of the source of pressure.
