  • Third sector in cross-national perspective [Elektronski vir] : an insight into potential factors causing variations
    Pevcin, Primož
The third sector is a very diverse sector, with organisations serving certain common purposes. Substantial increase in the socio-economic importance of the third sector has occurred in recent ... decades, and this sector tends to be seen nowadays as one of the pre-requisites of socio-economic development of society. Nevertheless, substantial variations exist in the size of the sector among countries, which can be elaborated from the existing cross-national data on the size and development of the third (civil society) sector. The empirical analysis presented in the paper which used various alternative measures of the sector size found sound support particularly for the validity of resource dependence and government failure (demand heterogeneity) theories for possible explanation of the variation in the sector size among countries.
