  • Laser surface treatment in mechanical engineering
    Grum, Janez, 1946-
ǂThe ǂversatility of the CO2 laser has provided an unique facility for the development of new surface treatment processes for surface engineering which can be applied to a wide range of engineering ... materials. These new laser based processes, which include surface hardening, remelting, alloying, cladding and local alloying are being used to meet critical material, operational and performance requirements. This is combined with the advantages of automatic process control and high geometric accuracy of the workpiece. In order to utilise the laser energy effectively it is necessary to increase the surface absorption capability of the material by surface coating, for which a variety of materials are available.
