  • ▫$Eu^{3+$▫} -activated silica prepared by alkoxide sol-gel method
    Županc Mežnar, Lea ...
Field emission display (FED) technology is one of the most promising candidates for flat-panel dispalys. Low voltage cathodoluminiscent phosphors become an important area of luminescent material ... research. The goal of our work was to prepare chemically stable silica, doped with the rare-earth activator europium, which has characteristic line emission in red spectral area upon the excitation. For the preparation of europium(III) activated silica tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and europium(III) chloride were used as precursos. The molar ratio of the components in the staring solution TEOS : H[sub]2O : EtOH : HCL : Eu[sup]3+ was 1 : 4 : 3 :0,002 : 0,05 (for SiO[sub]2 : 5 mol% Eu). After the condensation stage the sol was dried slowly. Powders, thin films and monoliths were prepared. The products were then characterized by thermal analysis, scanning electron microscopy, EXAFS analysis, UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy and cathodoluminescent measurements.
