  • High temperature phase transformed material fretting wear model. 3P13-11
    Kalin, Mitjan ; Vižintin, Jože
In our comprehensive study of fretting wear between steel and silicon nitride ceramics severe oxidation of ceramics and steel was found in unlubricated fretting [1, 2], while thermal cracking of oil ... and extreme carbonisation of steel were confirmed under lubricated fretting [3, 4]. In this paper various possible effects on resulting tribological interfaces are discussed based on the experimental evidences of changes of the microstructure, phase transformations, thermodynamic and temperature calculations and interaction couple experiments in which chemical wear was isolated by controlled mechanical and thermal parameters. We claim that due to simultaneous action of thermal and mechanical effects in the contact more clear evidences about the key governing factors for the tribochemical reactions can be brought only by the multidisciplinary approach and by isolated studies which can reveal basic laws about phenomena observed.
