Setnikar-Cankar, Stanka ; Petkovšek, Veronika, ekonomistka
Public health institutionsʼ aim is improving the health status of the population and consequently increasing the social welfare. This can only be achieved if the system is operating efficiently. The ... aim of the article is to introduce the possibilities of monitoring and measuring the health care efficiency and show an international comparison of efficiency in health care among the selected EU countries. Benchmarking methods are generally accepted methods of measuring efficiency in health care, among them the simplest method is the method of comparison of various indicators. The international comparison of some indicators will give us an insight into th eefficiency of health care systems in the selected countries. Health care systems differ between countries, which is why comparisons of the health care systems in different countries can be made using indicators of spatial, staff and equipment capacity in health care. Data of this kind are the best way for governments to keep track of the needs of their population in the field of health care and to manage an adequate health care policy; this is particularly true of the present, as governments are dealing with a recovery following the economic and financial crisis. International comparison and the possible transfer of good practices can therefore be used to achieve a higher level of quality for health care services in Slovenia.
