  • Analysis of high-speed milling dynamics: chatter vs. chatter-free cutting
    Grabec, Igor ...
Dynamics of high-speed full-immersion milling are investigated on the basis of recorded time series of tool displacements. Using axial cutting depth as the control parameter, dynamically different ... milling regimes are achieved. In the article, the regimes corresponding to chatter-free milling and chatter are analyzed and compared. It is shown that the tool motion is periodic during chatter-free milling, and approximately periodic or quasi-periodic during chatter. Based on the stroboscope sections of phase portraits of the tool motion, two methods for chatter detection are proposed.
