  • Modeling and control of horizontal-shaft magnetic bearing system

    A horizontal shaft magnetic bearing system represents a five degree of freedom (DOF) system. In the paper first the modeling procedure of a laboratory prototype with two DOF's is presented. Then the ... treatment is reduced to modeling and control design of yaxis. The model of reduced subsystem has one DOF and is non linear. It is linearized in the equilibrium point. The developed model is used for the simple PID controller design. In case of decentralized control, the same controller structure can be used to control the remaining DOF's. Comparison of experiment and simulation results for control in the y-axis is shown. Some important findings, difficulties and suggestions are summarized at the end.
