Article presents simulation results of transient heat transfer at heat extraction and rejection to the ground heat storage using a vertical ground heat exchanger. From different possible designs of a ... vertical borehole ground heat exchanger we used a coaxial heat exchanger - a vertical tube with immersed tube of smaller diameter. Following operating conditions have been considered: geothermal energy rejection for the heat pump and heat injection from an active solar system during the summer into the ground heat storage and extraction of accumulated heat and geothermal energy with heat pump in heating season. Vertical borehole ground loop heat exchanger operation has been analysed using finite volume numerical model with special emphasis on heat transfer between outer and inner pipe of coaxial ground heat exchanger. Constant and periodic heat exchanger operation has been analysed. Based on numerical simulations efficiency of heat extraction and heat rejection of geothermal heat and heat rejection from the solar system has been determined. Graphs for vertical coaxial ground heat exchanger nominal power estimation at operating conditions are also presented for different heat exchanger depths, flow rates and soil formation thermal conductivity.
