A new model of the effective particles formation in the copper alloys, presented in Part I, was studied experimeentally by the internal Oxidation of rapidly solidified ternary Cu-Al-Zr alloys and was ... confirmed with the results that are shown in this paper. With the rapid solidification process the size of the intermetallic Cu-Zr regions in the copper matrix was reduced to a scale which enabled dissolution of the intermetallic particless ahead of the advancing front of the internal oxidation process. An appropriately chosenconcentration of the soluble alloying element (C Al>1 at.%) and the diffusion of Zr down the concentration gradient to the internal oxidation front made possible the heterogeneous precipitation of zirconium oxide (ZrO2) from the solid solution and its growth on alumina particless (Al2O3) formed before. Because of higher dimensional stability of ZrO2 and crystal structure that provides a larger lattice mistif at the interface with the Cu matrix than that of gama-Al2O3 we obtained more effective oxide particles for dispersion strengening at higher temperatures.
