Heroin use disorder between self-help and social help : a case study

This thesis brings the study of a case of a former heroin user who had been mainly selfmanaging his use disorder. Through the coding of two interviews with him and his partner, the respective life ...histories were analysed, and intersections identified that addressed the question: at which points in their history was the external support they sought either adequate, poor, insufficient or absent. Despite their strong dedication towards a recovery, the collocutors experienced a significant lack of support; using the methods of grounded theory, these key moments were employed to lay the groundwork for a new model of proactive and personalized social work practice, with harm reduction in the client in mind.
