  • An approach to design for machining [Elektronski vir]
    Junkar, Mihael ; Juriševič, Boštjan
The timing and the intensity of communication between the designer and the technologist play a decisive role for the success of a product. Apart from new methods and approaches to design, also the ... software and information on technology possibilities, offering optimum transition from the design to the product are already available on the market. In our paper we present an approach to design for machining (DFM), which considers the product and production complexity. Additionally, it offers different communication paths by which the amount of information and the number of communication iterations is optimized. Consequently, the time to getting to a viable solution is minimized. Critical design and manufacturing stages are pointed out and appropriate communication interfaces are proposed. Activities around process selection followed by the product redesign are described. Two examples of software specifically developed to enable the communication between the design and the manufacturing functions are presented and discussed.
