    Background. Due to rapid degradation i.e. calcification, aneurysmatic dilatation and propensity to thrombosis arterial grafts are not in clinical use. In contrast, heart valve homografts, with their ... lesser thrombogenicity, excellent initial haemodynamic performance and relative resistance to infection in comparison to mechanical valves, have a limited clinical use. Valvular homografts do not require immunosuppressive therapy. "Viable" and "nonviable" grafts are used. Their durability, sofar, remains uncertain.
