Objectives: To find out the effects of physiotherapeutic methods and techniques on the spasticity and functional ability in patients with multiple sclerosis in three week's program of renovating ... rehabilitation. Methods: In three week's treatment the spasticity and functional state were influented by physiotherapeutic methods and techniques in patient with multiple sclerosis. We tried to reduce the spasticity and improve the functional state. Antispastic positions, manual techniques to decrease spasticity and functional electrical stimulation were used. That was completed with proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation. The effectiveness of the therapy was evaluated with functional independence measure, Ashworth spasticity scale, Expanded disability status scale and Motor assessment scale. Results: The reduction of muscle tone (improvement for one mark in assessment with Ashworth spasticity scale), improvement of motion (turning on the hip, sitting over the edge of the bed and sitting for one mark in assessment with expanded disability scale; the ability in standing up were invariable), better performance in eating (improvement for one mark in assessment with functional independence measure; other activities were invariable), slight reduction of ataxia and the increase of tolerance on verticalization were achieved. Conclusion: We believe that in order to achieve better success rehabilitation treatment should be longer. Help from the physiotherapist should be provided even when the patients are at home for keeping the already attained abilities.
