    Trotovšek, Blaž ...
Repeated liver resections have become recognized and accepted treatment for selected patients with recurrent liver malignancies. In a ten year period (1987-1996) 14 patient were treated for recurrent ... malignancies: 10 with colorectal metastases and 4 with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The mean interval between the first and the second liver resection was 13 months in patients with colorectal secondaries and 17 months in patients with HCC. In patients with HCC, segment oriented resections were performed. In patients with colorectal metastases metastasectomy with at least 1 cm security margin or bigger resection was performed when possible. There was no operative mortality and morbidity was 21%. There was no need for blood transfusions. A median survival rate of all patients was 30 months; Overall postoperative 1-, 3-, and 5- year survival rates were 92,9%, 42,9% and 21,4% respectively.
